In 2012, my husband and I moved from Chicago to Birmingham, England armed only with our tiny Yorkiepoo, a couple suitcases, and a bag of dog food. (Pronounced Buh-ming-umm, for the record, not Bir-ming-ham!) We loved the city, its people and slower-paced vibe. We learned to drive on the left in our vintage VW Polo, to say "trousers" instead of "pants," and to eat Indian food instead of pizza.
I started this blog to keep track of this crazy adventure and to share the breathtaking beauty of Europe with friends and family back home. Thanks for stopping by! I developed a love for photography and hiking while living abroad, so you'll see a lot of that here. I share our city break adventures, favorite European food and drink moments, historical nuggets, and travel mishaps. On the weekends we weren't exploring Europe, we made it a point to get out in England's fabulous countryside and explore the vast trails and beautiful villages, so you'll see quite a lot of that, too.
Now that we are back in Chicago, we're doing our best to hang onto the simple and intentional lifestyle we experienced in England. Most days, you can find me dreaming up plans for our next adventure, reading three books at once, experimenting in the kitchen and garden, and making a spectacle of myself with my tiny crazy dog.
I hope this blog inspires you to shake up your own life, try something drastically different, seek the beautiful around every corner, and reflect on your values. Who was it who said we should be thriving not just surviving? I'm with them. Not to say I have this all figured out, but I do know this adventure isn't over yet! The more I cross off the bucket list, the longer it grows.
